Ruta das Estrelas 2024 in Cabana
11/08/2024 - 11/08/2024
Dolmen de Dombate
The route is a nocturnal tour of the cultural heritage of the town of A Coruña that allows you to observe the sky away from the light pollution of the cities. The numerous editions are guided by Jorge Mira, Professor of Physics at the University of Santiago.
It starts from the Archaeological Centre of the Dolmen of Dombate, Cathedral of Megalithism in Galicia and the participants walk to the summit of the Castro de Borneiro, a privileged place to enjoy the magic of the night and to do night stargazing, in the mountains of Borneiro.
The event will take place on Sunday 11 August 2024, from 22.00 hours. It is recommended to bring warm clothes and footwear, as well as a torch.
An itinerary to observe and learn with an eye on the sky and attention to the explanations of Jorge Mira, who once again this year will act as a guide for dozens of people who will enjoy a wonderful night during the Route of the Stars through the lands of Borneiro (Cabana de Bergantiños). The activity is a classic and every year it gains more and more followers.
It is a linear route of round trip, with a circular section. After a while of walking comfortably with hardly any unevenness, you reach the most photogenic and scenic corner of the route, which is the Castro de Borneiro.
This event is part of the summer programme of the Cabana de Bergantiños Town Council and brings with it one of the most eagerly awaited activities.
When Costa de la Morte seemed to be able to boast of more things, in Cabana it has been 20 years since I looked at the sky. Up there the sun always had sunsets much applauded by locals and visitors, but the night almost always went unnoticed except in Cabana. One of the first to pay attention to it was Jorge Mira, who started this Star Routes programme 20 years ago, in this Town Hall.
However, since that first initiative, the region has been working on this issue to the point of presenting its candidacy to become a Starlight destination, while activities such as this pioneering one in Cabana are taking place throughout the territory, attracting an increasing number of tourists.
The Cabana Town Council is always grateful for the participation of all the people who come to the event, and to Jorge Mira for acting as a guide in this always fantastic experience.
