Festiletras 2017

Festiletras 2017

The festival held its 35th edition in 2017. It is a tremendous achievement which was reflected in the full range of cultural activities that the organisers prepared. In 2017 the Festiletras event incorporated the celebration of the centenary of the death of the poet Eduardo Pondal by organising 35 acts as part of the 100 events for the 100 years since the death of the Bard of Bergantiños.

Festiletras had no less than 35 events this year, covering the 35 editions of the festival, year by year. One of the most emotional acts was the poetry recital by 35 people (including various members of the Batallón Literario da Costa da Morte and with a special dedication to Paco Souto) which covered one poem by each of the 35 authors who have been honoured in the 35 editions (including this one) of the festival formerly known as the Festa das Letras (Festival of Words).

The programme included appearances by local groups as well as other, more widely known performers including Uxía Senlle & João, Sés, Guadi Galego, Mini & Mero and Luar na Lubre.

The 35th edition of Festiletras brought together crafts, literature - Manuel Ferreiro presented a study on the Geography of Pondals literature, theatre for adults, history and memories of past editions, and also, la regufeira (a semi-improvised type of poetry duel).  Domingo Blanco, the greatest expert on this dialectic art form was on hand for the session dedicated to a regueifa. The eight days of performances and events finished with a free concert by Luar na Lubre.
