Rexenerafest 2017

Rexenerafest 2017

Rexenera Fest 2017 was the 3rd edition of the Carballo International Festival of Public Art.

The latest edition of the festival took place from the 29th May to the 4th July 2017, and brought together a carefully selected group of 9 artists from various countries who worked on large walls spread through the centre of the town. The artists featured this year were Curiot (Mexico), Sekone (Galicia), Jorit (Italy), AnimalitoLand (Argentina), Isaac Cordal (Galicia), Cintaidal (Catalunya), Nada (Galicia), Saturno (Catalunya) and Yoseba MP (Galicia).

The aim of the project is to bring together the best urban artists from Galicia, Spain and the rest of the world to make the town of Carballo one massive, open-air museum of street art which will continue to grow year after year. The festival is an open invitation to the world from Carballo, placing the town firmly on world map, showcasing the old town and promoting a different type of cultural tourism in the town centre of this municipality.

Each edition of Rexenera Fest is an agent of rehabilitation in the fight against urban feísmo (a Galician term referring to ugly architecture), using the streets as a space for dialogue and artistic expression. The event helps to brighten up run-down areas, bringing added value to the urban landscape, boosting pedestrian traffic and opening up places for leisure in the areas where the artists’ work.

For one week of the year, the participating artists work in various parts of the town where the locals and tourists can see first-hand the skill of the artists and the entire artistic process involved in each piece.

There are always other events being added to the programme and other, related activities run throughout the week in which the public can actively participate, completely free of charge: Masterclasses, conferences, concerts and guided tours.
