Interview with Raquel lema, Concelleira de Comercio, Hostalería e Turismo do concello de Laxe

We continue with the interviews to the town councils with the Town Council of Laxe. Laxe is located in the northwest of Galicia, at the western end of the Bergantiños region, in the heart of the Costa da Morte.

Laxe is closely linked to the sea and still preserves its agricultural and fishing past.

Today we show you the town council from the point of view of Raquel lema, Concelleira de Comercio, Hostalería e Turismo. Here are the best answers:

What feelings does Costa da Morte arouse in you? What does it mean to you?

There are several feelings, from tranquillity, peace, satisfaction, joy, freedom... Costa da Morte for me is a privilege.

Three reasons to discover it

Its beaches, its cultural, landscape and historical heritage and its gastronomy.

For tourists who come to visit you outside the summer season, what experiences are not to be missed?

  • The hiking trails PR-G Laxe-Punta Ínsua, PR-G Laxe-Traba.
  • The hiking routes in the Penedos de Pasarela and Traba.
  • The cultural performances in the season of Autumn-Winter.

In addition to the Playa de los Cristales, what other places or experiences are not to be missed?

  • Fresh seafood from our estuary, meat and sweets (one of them is the sweet omelette).

What do your visitors tell you? What do they like most about their stay in Laxe and about Costa da Morte?

The visitors to our town council tell us that it is a town with tourist charm and that it is worth discovering. It is a welcoming village with beautiful beaches and fine sand. With excellent raw material and good quality, they are proud to be able to spend the summer on one of the best urban beaches in Galicia.

Your three favourite beaches in Costa da Morte, why those, and for lovers of surfing and other nautical-sports activities?

Laxe, Soesto and Traba beaches, for surfing, kitesurfing and kayaking lovers. Because they are beaches that lend themselves to the activity in an open sea area and others in more secluded sandy areas.

For those who love hiking... Which one do you recommend in your municipality? And which is your favourite in Costa da Morte?

PR-G 70, PR-G 114, which are the hiking routes of the council and the Penedos de Pasarela and Traba.

What place do you think is the great unknown in Costa da Morte but has a great interest or potential?

It has a great variety. A selection of natural spaces, pazos, mills, churches, heritage, festivals, gastronomy, waterfalls, islands, beaches.... wonderful spaces in which it is worth getting lost, coming, getting to know, and enjoying our charm.

Where do we find the best sunset?

At the Espera statue, near the lighthouse and on the wild beaches of the open sea, such as Soessto and Traba.
